I am currently an Undergraduate Engineering Officer with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). I joined as an Officer in January 2018, where I completed the Undergraduate Entry Officer Course. Upon completion of my Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics at the University of Technology, Sydney, I will begin training to become a Weapons Electrical Engineering Officer in the RAN.
This is not my first time in the RAN, where in February 2010 - February 2011 I served in the Navy as a Gap Year Sailor, where I completed the 11 weeks recruit school, 3 weeks Boatswain Course, and had postings on a patrol boat deployed on Operation Resolute around Christmas Island and Ashmore Island. I spent the last half of my time at Port Services Fleet Base East, in Sydney assisting with day to day wharf operations.
In my time before and after my Gap Year experience, I worked as a Swim Teacher/Coach at the Warringah Aquatic Centre, where I taught and coached swimmers from the early beginner all the way up to national level. I stopped Swim Teaching in February of 2018. I also started Lifeguarding in April 2011 and moved across to Shift Managing in April of 2013, in which I continue to this day.
As a lifeguard/shift manager I was responsible for the day to day running and basic maintenance of the pool, including pool operations, cleaning, lane space allocations, WHS compliance and public safety to name just a few things! I have also helped write safe work method instructions, manuals, and built and designed a team website, including an online roster and SDS chemical register.
From 2012-2017 I studied a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Applied Physics at the University of Technology, Sydney, completing it part time, due to my work and life commitments. This degree really helped me decide to pursue an engineering degree, and a career in the RAN.
